We celebrated 50 years of FABU!

On May 9, 2023, the Friends and Alumni of Bergische Universität (FABU) celebrated its 50th anniversary under the motto "Shaping the future" and offered a look back at 50 successful years and a glimpse into the future.

As Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gust, Vice-Rector for Third Mission and International Affairs, also emphasized, we would like to thank Mr. Jaeger for the very good cooperation, who said goodbye in the context of this event:

"50 years of FABU means five decades of supporting the University of Wuppertal in many facets relating to teaching, research, studying but also means linking the University of Wuppertal with the people, institutions, companies and others in the region. It has been a great pleasure for me to serve on the Board for several years and I wish the university and FABU all the best for the future!" We would also like to congratulate Dr. Jens M. Schmidt on his election as the new Chairman of the Board. Mr. Schmidt revealed that in the coming years, he would like to focus on further intensifying the university's connection to the economy and positioning FABU more strongly towards the graduates of the University of Wuppertal.

The exciting keynote speech on "Industrial Design - the future between AI and strategic innovation" by Prof. Martin Topel from the Chair of Capital Goods and Product Systems in the Industrial Design course rounded off the event.

The UNI Choir of the University of Wuppertal provided a musical highlight. After the festive event, guests were invited to a small reception where they were able to round off the evening in a convivial atmosphere.

50 years of FABU - "Shaping the future"

On June 5, 1973 - just one year after the founding of the Gesamthochschule Wuppertal - today's University of Wuppertal - today's Association of Friends and Alumni of the University of Wuppertal was founded under the former name Gesellschaft der Freunde der Bergischen Universität (GFBU). The GFBU was founded in the Wuppertal Zoo restaurants - in the presence of Science Minister Johannes Rau - and the entrepreneur Dr.-Ing. Erich Mittelsten Scheid (Vorwerk & Co.) was elected as the first chairman.

The Friends and Alumni of Bergische Universität e.V. (FABU) is an interdisciplinary association that forms a strong network for the more than 22,000 students, alumni, members and partners of Bergische Universität. FABU supports a wide range of projects at the University of Wuppertal and sees itself as a bridge between research and business. The most successful projects have included financial support for the university's major investment projects, such as the construction of the guest house, the aesthetic upgrading of the campus, the awarding of prizes for academic theses, regular support for the UNIKONZERTE series, the organization of the UniTal event series and support for excursions and research projects. FABU is open to alumni, friends and students of all departments at the University of Wuppertal. In addition, individual sections have been formed within FABU which are specifically dedicated to supporting certain departments or subjects at the university.
